From Solo Hackathons to professional consultancy..... Hello world... again!
If you’ve been following my journey here on PyDev, you know I have a bit of a history with diving headfirst into the deep end. Whether it was wrestling with Distilled BERT on SageMaker or surviving a 48-hour solo hackathon building VerifAI, I’ve always been about ”learning by doing”—and occasionally ”learning by panicking”.
But lately, things have shifted from ”solo fortress” coding to the high-stakes, high-impact world of professional consultancy. I’ve just wrapped up my internship at Knowit, and let’s just say my ”summer romance with the cloud” has officially turned into a serious, long-term commitment.
The Greenhouse Effect: Innovation in Kista
I was lucky enough to land my internship at Knowit Connectivity, specifically within their Greenhouse incubator in Kista. For those not familiar with the Stockholm tech scene, Kista is our ”Silicon Valley,” and Greenhouse is the beating heart of innovation within Knowit. It’s a space where the brightest minds CTOs, architects, and senior devs collaborate on cutting-edge projects.

Walking into that environment felt like a level-up in a video game. It’s one thing to build a face recognition system in your living room; it’s quite another to sit in a room where everyone is essentially a ”human supercomputer”. The energy was palpable, focused, and incredibly inspiring.
Deep Dive: AI-Powered SaaS in the Cloud
During my time as an AI Engineer/Consultant, I was primarily tasked with a SaaS (Software as a Service) solution for the healthcare sector. The goal? Using AI to provide a clearer, real-time picture of a patient’s condition. In my previous posts, I’ve talked about how ”cloud computing is essentially renting someone else’s giant, super-secure computer”. At Knowit, I wasn’t just renting it; I was architecting it. My work focused on:
- Infrastructure & Security: I moved beyond the ”Cloud 101” basics of the AZ-900. I spent a lot of time in AWS, specifically using Amazon Cognito and Amazon Verified Permissions (AVP), Cloudformation, and other services.
- Authorization & Governance: In healthcare, ”close enough” isn’t good enough. I worked on refining data authorization and governance to ensure that once a user logs in, their access to sensitive patient data is strictly and securely managed. It’s the ultimate ”IAM headache,” but as I learned with SageMaker, these hurdles are just learning opportunities in disguise.
- Data Pipelines: I designed and implemented backend services and AI-compatible data pipelines to handle advanced analytics. It was about ensuring scalability and reliability—the ”unsexy” but vital parts of AI that make the ”magic” possible.
The Pivot: Why Healthcare SaaS?
Working on this project sparked something in me. I’ve seen firsthand how fragmented and inefficient manual processes can be—like the paper-based time tracking that led me to build my first face recognition app.
Because of this, I’ve decided to focus my Master’s Thesis (Examensarbete) on SaaS solutions within healthcare. I want to explore how we can bridge the gap between ”theory” and ”practical implementation” to make patient care smarter and more efficient. (Stay tuned for a dedicated post on that soon!)
The Next Frontier: Agents and Certifications
While I’m deep in my thesis, I’ve also developed a new obsession: AI Agents.
Remember when I wrote about ”Vibe Coding” and Andrej Karpathy’s ”System 1” thinking?. Agents are the next step. It’s no longer just about a model answering a question; it’s about autonomous entities that can plan, use tools, and solve complex workflows. I’m currently ”sold” on the combination of AWS and Agentic workflows.
And because I apparently don’t have enough on my plate with a thesis and a blog, I’ve set my sights on the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate. After fisting-pumping the air for my AZ-900, I’m ready for the ”Professional League” of cloud badges.
Closing Thoughts
I’ve missed the adrenaline of hackathons, but right now, my focus is clear:
- Crush the Thesis.
- Earn the AWS SA Cert.
- Keep building.
I promise to make more time for this blog. There’s too much happening in AI and Cloud to stay silent. As we say in the dev world, the journey is just beginning, so keep your espresso machine handy—not for a backup career, but for the exciting, AI-assisted future ahead.
